Kuma's Komments

Kuma knows that many four (and two-legged) creatures prefer to hibernate and wait for warmer temperatures this time of year BUT.........
Many breeds prefer the cooler temps that go with this season. She has put together a list of things to consider when taking part in our Colorado winters:
  • Your dog will most likely cover 2-3 times the distance you will in their exuberance. Leaping through deep snow can take a physical toll in a short time. Referee their activity and don't be afraid to leash up for their own good while getting in shape. Some dogs love to "scoop" snow in their mouths which can lead to a deadly build up of air in their stomachs leading to bloat or torsion. Carry plenty of water and offer small amounts frequently while out.
  • The glare of the sun snow can be very detrimental to their vision. Consider utilizing Rexspecs for outdoor protection.
  • Periodically check feet for ice build up and possible cuts from it.
  • Include basic First Aid supplies for your dog in your go bag.
  • ALWAYS let someone know where you are going and what time you expect to be back.
  • GPSs and SPOT devices SAVE LIVES

                                                      Stay safe out there!!
